Тони со неговата смисла да направи политички трилер/акција не` води во „кризното време“ после пропаѓањето на СССР, во една америчка подморница која игра клучен фактор за превенција на почеток на нуклеарна војна. Целата поента на филмот е тензијата која се брои во милисекунди, како и психолошката анализа на еден Капетан и Извршителен офицер.</p><p>Gene Hackman како капетан не можеа подобар да најдат. Поготово не во филм од 90тите. Неговата строгост, остечност на клучни моменти, како и тврдоглавост, непрагматичност во моментот на одлуките кои би донеле погубност за целото човештво, го отсликува ликот на еден капетан во високи години, со искуство на морски волк, его над облаци.</p><p>Од друга страна извршителниот офицер Хантер - Denzel Washington,неговата смиреност и прагматичност освојува симпатии прво кај капетанот а подоцна и во целиот екипаж.
